Applicants
Steps to Apply to the Radiation Therapy Program
Step 1: Complete academic prerequisites
Review the list of Radiation Therapy Program academic prerequisites. The Radiation Therapy Program offers unofficial transcript reviews and advisement for all potential students. We encourage you to contact the Radiation Therapy Program with any questions regarding acceptable prerequisites, or to set up a phone meeting with Program faculty.
Please review the program-specific and OHSU technical standards prior to applying to the program.
Step 2: Complete 30 hours of observation
All applicants are required to spend 30 hours of observation time in radiation therapy departments. Applicants must also have a Documented Observation Form with them at the time of each visit. Please provide the form to a therapist from each observation clinic for completion after observation. Please request that the completed form be sent (scanned/mailed) to the OHSU Radiation Therapy Program.
All observation hours must be documented on the Completed Observation Form, and submitted with the application to the Program.
Contact information for program affiliated clinics in the Portland area may be provided by the program upon request. Please contact us at rttprogram@ohsu.edu to obtain this contact information and supplemental HIPAA training module.
Step 3: Submit completed application between November 1st and February 1st
Documents needed to complete the application process:
- Official transcripts
- Completed Observation Form
- Personal statement
- Two letters of recommendation
In addition to OFFICIAL transcripts, please upload UNOFFICIAL transcripts from all colleges attended to the application for the initial review. Please submit official transcripts to:
Please direct questions about the online application to: ohsuinfo@liaisoncas.com or call Customer Service 857-304-2017 Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST.
Note: application fee waivers for applicants who are economically disadvantaged may be requested by contacting somgrad@ohsu.edu before submitting their application.
For general questions and information regarding our admission requirements, please contact the Radiation Therapy Program.
Next Steps
After submitting a complete application, the following steps occur:
1. Applicant Review: The admissions committee reviews all application documentation.
2. Interviews: Based on the application review, a select group of applicants is invited to OHSU for on-site interviews. Interview day consists of tours, demonstrations, and individual and group interviews with the admissions committee.
3. Admissions Decisions: All applicants are notified of admissions decisions. Admissions decisions are based on a combination of the committee score and application packet score. The program accepts up to nine students per cohort, and creates an alternate/waitlist.
Didn't get accepted this year? Apply the next year! The admissions committee looks favorably on applicants who apply again – particularly those who spend the year gaining experience in the field.
Refer to the Education site for Student Admissions Requirements and a comprehensive list of OHSU's approved academic policies: https://www.ohsu.edu/education/academic-policy
Acceptance from the waitlist
It is the policy of the OHSU Radiation Therapy Program to accept no more than nine students in an admission cycle. Applicants on the admissions waitlist will be accepted when an accepted student chooses to decline or defer their offer of admission, or otherwise cannot attend the program. The Radiation Therapy Program does not accept students off the admissions waitlist after July 31st of any given year for a Summer B Term start date.
The OHSU Radiation Therapy Program prepares students to pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Radiation Therapy Examination, the national benchmark to practice in the United States. OHSU is unable to monitor requirements for licensure in every state, and therefore is unable to make a determination if an OHSU program meets all requirements for licensure for a given state. You should always check with the individual states for the current expectations regarding licensure in that state. Additional information regarding licensure can be found on the OHSU out-of-state authorization webpage under licensure.
OHSU employees seeking to pursue individual courses for academic credit or an academic degree or certificate within OHSU must declare their employment status to the Academic Program prior to registering for courses or accepting admissions.
OHSU students wishing to accept an employment offer from an OHSU department (excluding positions identified as Student Employment or Student Work Study) must notify their program director prior to accepting the position for the purposes of initiating the process to review conflicts of interest. (Policy 03-30-145, updated 8/18/2021)
Review the New Student Pre-Entrance Immunization Requirements: https://www.ohsu.edu/education/new-student-requirements
OHSU strongly recommends that all OHSU members, regardless of their work location or job function, remain “up-to-date” with COVID-19 vaccines, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Under the revised policy as of June 12, 2023, all students must be “fully vaccinated” or “up-to-date” with COVID-19 vaccinations OR they must submit a declination form via Enterprise Health and adhere to Student Health’s current requirements designed to minimize COVID-19 transmission. New students wishing to submit a declination should do so when they receive their network login credentials (usually about 30 days before the start of your program).
Review OHSU Policy 03-30-150 and Policy 02-90-010, and remain in compliance for the duration of enrollment at OHSU.
2024-25 FAFSA Update-Take Action (updated January 8, 2024)
As noted in earlier communications, the upcoming 2024-25 financial aid year (Summer 2024-Spring 2025) includes substantial changes to the financial aid application process and awarding. As a result, the Department of Education, as well as all colleges/universities, must implement updated software to process the applications. Unfortunately, Department of Education has delayed the release of the FAFSA that is normally available on October 1. These delays have also prevented college/university financial aid software providers from being able to release an updated version of software to institutions.
The Department of Education has now opened the FAFSA as a soft launch for 2024-25. However, they are monitoring the system to see if any issues arise and may limit access at times. We are currently hearing that there are issues they are working through. Therefore, we would advise waiting to submit an application until the third week in January.
Here are some steps you can take to expedite your financial aid application:
- Apply Early: As of third week of January, do not delay in applying for aid. The sooner you submit your application, the better.
- FSAID Preparation: Ensure that your FSAID (Federal Student Aid ID) is ready to use. This is the same ID you used for applying for aid this year.
- If you are a married student or a dependent student who is required to include your parental information, there is additional information below on how your spouse or parents’ information will be included on your FAFSA.
- If you do not have a FSAID, you can get one on the Department of Education website. It is recommended you set up that ID before applying for financial aid (allow about 3 business days for processing). You can therefore create those ID’s while you are currently waiting to apply for financial aid. The Department of Education also has created video regarding how to create the FSAID.
- Review Questions Carefully: Pay close attention to the questions on the FAFSA form. Many questions are different from prior years.
- For dependent students, review the information regarding which parent(s) must be included in your FAFSA.
- School Selection: Make sure you list OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University 004883) as a school that should receive your information.
Regarding the next steps after applying for aid:
- During the soft launch of the FAFSA, when you submit your completed 2024–25 FAFSA form, the Department of Education will send an email confirming that they received your form.
- The Department of Education has indicated that schools will not start receiving applications until late January. Therefore, we will not be able to see your application right away. The Department of Education will send you an email when your FAFSA information has been sent to your selected schools.
- Rest assured that once we have your aid application and the implementation of the new software, we will email each applicant to indicate we have received the FAFSA and if additional information is needed at that time. We anticipate starting to send out those emails in mid to late February. Note: as the application moves through the application process, there are times when a student may be asked for information more than once. If information is requested, respond promptly. Your application will not proceed through the awarding process until we have received that information.
- After the soft launch of the FAFSA and OHSU can load applications, typically, we will send out email notifications once we receive your completed FAFSA. Previously, we would receive your application within 3 business days after you would have submitted the FAFSA. For the new application process, it could be subject to change.
- While we do not currently have a set timeline for awarding, students will be notified via email when they are awarded.
Married Students and Dependent Students
Beginning this year, there are changes to how a spouse or parent will have their information included on you FAFSA. For FAFSA purposes, these people are considered contributors to your FAFSA.
- For married students, your spouse would only be considered a contributor if you and your spouse did not file a joint 2022 Federal Tax Return. If you filed taxes separately, your spouse will need to get a FSAID with separate email account.
- For dependent students (those required to include their parental information on the FAFSA) there will be additional information included in the application process that will help you determine which parent(s) to report. For anyone required to report, they will also need a FSAID with a separate email account.
- For more information on contributors, please see this Department of Education video.
Note:
- The new demographic data collected on the FAFSA (gender, race, and ethnicity) will not be sent to the schools indicated on the FAFSA and will not be used in determining eligibility.
Since the new FAFSA application process is just launching, if there are further delays to applying for aid, we will send an additional email.

2024-2025 FAFSA - Important Announcement (updated Fall 2023)
Beginning with the 2024-25 year (Summer 2024 – Spring 2025), the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is introducing changes that represent the most significant modifications made to the FAFSA in decades. The FAFSA Simplification Act, which was passed by Congress in 2020, prioritized simplifying the FAFSA application process, resulting in many changes to how aid eligibility is determined.
Due to the nmber of changes, the Department of Education has reported that the FAFSA will be available in December 2023. However, the specific release date has not been determined yet. The FAFSA will continue to use prior year income. For 2024-25 FAFSA, it will use 2022 tax information. For most people, those tax returns have already been submitted. However, if you, your spouse if married, or your parents (if required to supply parental information on your FAFSA), are required to file a 2022 tax return and haven’t filed yet, we recommend you do that before December.
For those students working on their 1st Bachelor’s degree, the changes being enacted may result in an increase in the number of students eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. If you haven’t applied in the past but are working on your 1st Bachelor’s degree, you may want to apply this year to see if you would be eligible. Students will be notified of any Pell Grant eligibility when they are awarded aid by OHSU.
Given the delay of the release of the 2024-2025 FAFSA, as well as changes to be implemented at the school level, it will be essential for all students who wish to be considered for federal student aid to apply for the 2024-2025 FAFSA as soon as it becomes available.
Once we have a finalized release date, we will post another communication including helpful hints on applying. For future financial aid years, the FAFSA should be available on October 1st.
If you have additional questions, please contact the OHSU Financial Aid Office at finaid@ohsu.edu.
Students attending OHSU fall 2024 through spring 2025 may now apply for scholarships through Oregon's Office of Student Access and Completion. In 2023-24, OHSU students were awarded over $350,000 in OSAC scholarships.
This one OSAC application covers more than 600 scholarship programs valued at more than $10 million. While various scholarships are available, some are related to health profession students. There are also scholarships that do not require Oregon residency.
Early bird deadline: 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15. Error-free applications submitted by this deadline receive an early review and will be entered into one of several $1,000 early bird scholarship drawings.
Final application deadline: 5 p.m., Monday, April 1. All materials must be submitted to OSAC.
