Academic Prerequisites
Applicants applying to the Radiation Therapy Program at Oregon Health & Science University must have completed our prerequisites in order to matriculate into the program.
Students may apply while they are completing the admission requirements, but must complete prerequisite courses and credits prior to enrollment (no later than June 30th) unless a waiver has been granted. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for admission. All prerequisite courses must be taken at another institution.
All Oregon public colleges and universities operate on a quarter system. Semester credits will be adjusted accordingly.
The Radiation Therapy Program offers unofficial transcript review and advisement for all potential students. Feel free to contact the Radiation Therapy Program with any questions regarding acceptable prerequisites, or to set up a phone meeting with Program faculty.
Math and Science 7-Year Waiver Form
Math and science prerequisite courses that exceed a seven-year limit will need to be requested for a waiver, or retaken. Prerequisite waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis, and the forms are available upon request. Prerequisites will only be waived when an applicant’s academic and/or professional history demonstrate an adequate knowledge base in that subject. Applicants whose math/science prerequisites were taken more than seven years ago must have earned a letter grade B or higher in order for that course to be considered. The approval of prerequisite waiver requests is at the discretion of the Radiation Therapy Program Director.
Tracks for Completing Prerequisites
For applicants or potential applicants with neither an associate degree in Radiologic Technology from a JRCERT accredited program nor a Bachelor's degree of any type, a total of at least 90 transfer credits are required to enroll, which at minimum must include the required prerequisite courses below. Note that two English composition courses, a technical writing course and a human development are required.
All prerequisite courses must be taken at another institution. Regarding the semester credit transfer rate, OHSU converts semester to quarter credits by multiplying by 1.5. For example, a class worth 4 semester credits is equivalent to 6 quarter credits.
For applicants or potential applicants with an associate degree in Radiologic Technology from a JRCERT accredited program, the following courses are required for admission. Note that two English composition courses, a technical writing course and a human development are required.
All prerequisite courses must be taken at another institution. Please note that the OHSU Radiation Therapy Program does not offer an associate degree in radiologic technology.
These prerequisite courses are established by the state of Oregon and are required in order to complete a Bachelor's degree at a public university in Oregon. Regarding the semester credit transfer rate, OHSU converts semester to quarter credits by multiplying by 1.5. For example, a class worth 4 semester credits is equivalent to 6 quarter credits.
For applicants or potential applicants with a Bachelor's degree of any type (other than Radiologic Science), the following courses are required. All prerequisite courses must be taken at another institution.
Note: prerequisites may be fulfilled by courses completed with first undergraduate degree. Regarding the semester credit transfer rate, OHSU converts semester to quarter credits by multiplying by 1.5. For example, a class worth 4 semester credits is equivalent to 6 quarter credits.
For applicants or potential applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Science from a JRCERT accredited program, the following courses are required. All prerequisite courses must be taken at another institution.

Common Equivalent Course Descriptions
Introduces technical and professional communications. Students compose, design, revise, and edit effective letters, memos, reports, descriptions, instructions, and employment documents. Emphasizes precise use of language and graphics to communicate complex technical and procedural information safely, legally and ethically.

Surveys major developmental theories and patterns of change and continuity from birth to death in human subjects. Emphasizes biological, cognitive, and emotional development through the lifespan. Examines cultural influences on development.

Introduces components of an adequate diet, nutrient availability and utilization. Analyze dietary intake and compare to current scientific guidelines. Examines peripheral factors influencing diet such as global and local issues, cultural environment, and elements of food safety. Strong background in life sciences recommended.

Investigates trigonometric functions, equations and identities. Examines right and oblique triangles, vectors, polar coordinates, and complex numbers. Explores topics graphically, numerically, symbolically, and verbally. Graphing technology is required.

Note: OHSU requires a minimum of 3 credits of transcripted math coursework. The OHSU Radiation Therapy Program requires at minimum the equivalent of pre-calculus mathematics with trigonometry, or higher level math such as calculus.
