Pediatric Oncology Genetics
The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics Pediatric Oncology Clinic at OHSU provides outpatient and inpatient services for children (under age 18) who have a personal diagnosis of cancer or a family history of a known gene mutation associated with hereditary cancer. Children with a past or present personal history of cancer can be evaluated. Children without a cancer diagnosis are evaluated when a close family member has a confirmed genetic mutation that increases the risk for a child to get cancer under age 18.
This clinic includes a board certified medical geneticist and board certified genetic counselor. At the visit, we will take a thorough evaluation of the child’s medical and family history and do a physical exam if necessary. We will assess and discuss the utility and availability of genetic testing to determine if a child’s cancer might be due to a genetic condition passed down in a family. We also will talk with you about whether you, your child, or other family members are at an increased risk for cancer. When indicated, we will arrange genetic testing, relay results, and provide cancer surveillance recommendations.
