OHSU Startup Companies
OHSU research has resulted in 43 startup companies since 2000, bringing the total number to 74 since the early 1970s. In the past five years, an average of nearly four startup companies per year has developed out of OHSU research. Nearly 80 percent of the companies that emerged during that time currently operate in Oregon, bringing new discoveries to market and contributing to the region's economic development.
OHSU excels at cutting edge research, which has propelled it into the top ranks of the nation's academic medical centers. In fiscal year 2010, the university garnered $307 million in research awards from all funding sources, more than three times the total a decade ago. Each new research grant in itself is like bringing new business to Oregon.
OHSU is diligently translating discoveries, wherever possible, into commercial applications. The Office of Technology Transfer and Business Development is the university's bridge to industry. TTBD is forging ties with the entrepreneurial and local business community to create a framework of support for the development of companies utilizing OHSU research.
