Background

Dr. Summers strives to increase our knowledge of childhood eye diseases in order to improve treatment. She is involved in research, including involvement with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, a collaborative network dedicated to facilitating multicenter clinical research in strabismus, amblyopia and other eye disorders that affect children. The network is funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI), a part of the National Institutes of Health, the branch of government that funds medical research. There are currently over 60 participating sites with over 120 pediatric ophthalmologists and pediatric optometrists in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom participating in the network.
