Background

Dr. McCartney moved to Portland OR in 1992 and conducted research in intracellular signaling mechanisms as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Vollum Institute, OHSU, from 1992-1996. Dr. McCartney returned to OHSU in 1997 and currently manages and administers neurological surgery computer support, web pages, databases, publishing/editorial material and was the assistant editor of the AANS/CNS Pain Section Newsletter (1998-2006).

Key Responsibilities

Editing and tracking of departmental publications, journals, book chapters, and IRB protocols prepared by faculty members and residents.

Editor - department newsletter: Neurotransmitter

Educate - medical students and residents, staff and faculty, as appropriate regarding OHSU computer security and compliance, internet, web and desktop publishing and Hipaa compliance regulations.

Development of the Department of Neurological Surgery’s website, market/educate the department to patients, physicians, researchers and the health care industry.

Administration of an interactive web-application for Facial Pain Diagnosis

Administration of departmental morbidity and mortality tracking.

Collaboration and communication with clinical neuroscience departments in outreach to the community and provide web expertise (OHSU Brain Awareness and OHSU Brain Institute).
