Biography

Travis Smith, Ph.D, is an electrical engineer specializing in signal and image processing.  He enjoys working with a team of exceptional people.  He is developing technology to improve the ability of OHSU’s clinicians and researchers to detect and treat retinal diseases.  His research interests include imaging systems and image enhancement, mathematical modeling, and optimization in biomedical applications. 

Dr. Smith earned his Ph.D in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, where his research in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging resulted in new techniques for high-resolution scanning of the coronary arteries and two patents.  Prior to his work in medical imaging, he was a senior research scientist in Ann Arbor, MI developing prototypes of advanced radar imaging platforms and real-time processing algorithms.
