Immunohistochemistry Services

The Histopathology Shared Resource provides Immuhistochemistry services which include:

  • Testing and titering new antibodies, both monoclonal and polyclonal. The latter should be either a purified IgG fraction or affinity-purified. (Straight serum is not suitable for immunostaining).
  • Optimization of staining to enhance detection and reduce background.
  • Epitope retrieval techniques (pre-treatment with heat and/or proteases)
  • Specialized secondary detection reagents
  • Avidin/biotin blocking steps
  • Double- and triple-antibody stains using multiple chromagens.

Manual and automated immunohistochemistry

Immunohistochemistry services provided by the Histopathology Shared Resource (HSR) can be performed using the automated Ventana Benchmark XT platform or by manually staining the slides by hand.

*Please note: HSR does not carry antibodies in stock for general use. Researchers must provide the antibody to the core for immunohistochemistry services requested. Once the request is completed, HSR will return the remaining antibody to the researcher along with the samples.

Contact the Histopathology Shared Resource for more information.

Previous optimized antibodies

The Histopathology Shared Resource has performed various Immunohistochemistry stains. Please note that the core does not have antibodies in stock. It is up to the researcher to purchase the antibody for their project. Please discuss with The Histopathology Shared Resource before purchasing an antibody. Below is a list of antibody stains performed by the core for previous projects.

  • For a list of previous antibodies optimized using the Ventana Benchmark XT Platform, refer to our Automated Immunohistochemistry Services
  • For a list of previous antibodies optimized manually (by hand), please contact the Kate Rice for more information.
