The Thomas Lab currently has four members. If you are interested in joining the lab, please contact Gary Thomas at the address listed on the lab home page.

Jimmy DikeakosJimmy Dikeakos email
BS, McGill University, 2002
PhD, University of Montreal, 2008

Jimmy joined the lab in 2008 as a CHIR postdoctoral fellow. Jimmy received his B.S. from McGill University in Montreal, majoring in Biochemistry. His Ph.D. studies were conducted at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal (IRCM) and the Biochemistry Department of the University of Montreal under the co-supervision of Tim Reudelhuber and Jim Omichinski. His thesis project used a combination of cell biology and nuclear magnetic resonance to determine how cargo proteins are targeted to dense core secretory granules. Jimmy is currently studying the role of the PACS proteins in HIV Nef-induced pathogenesis and the structure of PACS-2.

Katelyn AtkinsKatelyn Atkins email
BS, Concordia College, 2006

Katie was a research assistant in the Thomas lab before becoming an MD/PhD candidate at OHSU. She completed her second year of medical school and is now starting her thesis studies that focus on how HIV-1 Nef induces MHC-I downregulation. In a second project, Katie is determining how class I PI3K/Akt signaling pathways impede the ability of PACS proteins to mediate apoptosis.

Laurel ThomasLaurel Thomas email
BS, Boise State University, 1978

Laurel was a research assistant in the labs of Dr. Susumu Tonegawa (Basel) and Ed Herbert (Vollum) before joining the Thomas Lab in 1987. Laurel is studying the mechanism of TRAIL induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer, and she is also investigating the mechanism by which PACS proteins regulate the trafficking of ion channels. In a third project, Laurel is investigating new generation small molecule inhibitors of HIV-1 immune evasion.
