satellite-cell-myofiber-nucleiThe Keller laboratory at the OSCS and the Pediatric Cancer Biology program investigates the factors responsible for quiescence and activation of muscle stem cells, called satellite cells.  Using mouse conditional genetics, our laboratory investigates ex vivo and in vivo the growth factors and regulatory proteins associated with the asymmetric division of satellite cells, and the proliferation and differentiation of myoblast and myofiber progeny.  These studies parallel investigation of the tumor repopulating cells of rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive childhood cancer with a satellite cell phenotype.
