Biography

Dr. Meihua Zhu was initially trained as a radiologist and a physician. She has been involved in clinical investigation and translational research using ultrasound technology for over a decade. Her primary research focus has been on the application of ultrasound imaging to cardiovascular diseases using cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography).  Recently, Mei started applying ultrasound technology into a new era; specifically, chest ultrasonography or lung ultrasound. Lung ultrasound is a noninvasive imaging technique able to provide an immediate diagnosis of the underlying etiology of respiratory failure and chest injuries. The goal of her current project is to develop an automated, artificial algorithm for diagnosis of pulmonary diseases and injuries in children and adults. Mei is also exploring machine learning in FAST ultrasound exams in her research.

When Mei is away from work, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, cooking, walking, and gardening.
