The Surgical Services Unit (SSU) is composed of two veterinary surgeons and eight veterinary surgical technicians. The SSU provides comprehensive surgical support for ONPRC research programs as well as surgical support for the Clinical Medicine Unit.
Our duties include pre-operative patient assessment and preparation, multimodal analgesia administration, anesthesia delivery, vital signs monitoring, performing precise surgical procedures, patient anesthetic recovery, and complete post-operative care. We make special efforts to conduct procedures via the least invasive means possible. To do this, we utilize state of the art endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques as well as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. All personnel are professionally trained and share the goal of promoting the optimum health and well-being of research animals.
