We convene an annual Neuro-Oncology and Blood-Brain Barrier Consortium meeting each spring in Oregon or the Pacific Northwest. The meeting is partially funded by a NIH R13 meeting grant with support from the National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders, and the Walter S. and Lucienne Driskill Foundation. The 2012 meeting is being held in collaboration with the International Brain Barriers Society (IBBS).

The 2012 meeting will be held March 22-24 at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, WA.. The meeting will begin the morning of March 22nd with the annual Blood-Brain Barrier Consortium Discussion (BBB Consortium members only).  The focus of the afternoon session on March 22nd will be

Challenges of Central Nervous System Imaging:  Issues regarding the Blood-Brain Barrier

During dinner on March 22nd, the focus will switch to


 "Novel Approaches for Translational 
Blood-Brain Barrier Research"

 
with a presentation on

 "Orphan Drugs in the U.S. and Worldwide: A Review of the First 25 years."  

This focus will continue on March 23rd and 24th with special emphasis on the following topics:

 

Novel Translational Approaches among Government, Academia, and Industry

Translational Advances in Imaging Technology:  The Neurovascular Unit

Translational Approaches in Imaging the Blood-Brain Barrier in Rare Neurologic Diseases

New Opportunities for Translational Blood-Brain Barrier Research using Imaging and Orphan Drug Designation in Rare Neurologic Diseases

 Skamania Lodge is an all-season destination resort located 42 miles east of Portland, Oregon.  It is situated on 175 acres and is surrounded by the waterfalls, mountain peaks, forests and canyons of the majestic Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.  For directions, please see the travel page.

The deadline for registration is March 1, 2012.  The deadline for reserving a guest room at Skamania is February 22, 2012.

There will be poster sessions after dinner on March 22nd and 23rd. All meeting participants are encouraged to bring a poster of their research to the meeting to be displayed at both poster sessions. For poster details, please see Scientific Poster Information.
