Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Core

Principle Investigator:  Dr. Jeffery Kaye
Length:  Indefinite  Visits:  2 per year
Purpose:  To determine the natural history and progression of Alzheimer’s disease, MCI, and other well-characterized dementias.
Seeking Volunteers:

  • Early AD, MMSE >20, or MMSE <=20 if under 50 years old
  • MCI of the Alzheimer Type
  • Other well defined dementias (FTD, Lewy Body)
  • Healthy subjects at risk - subjects with a strong family history
  • Must be able to have full UDS protocol (no conflicting overlap with other clinical trials)
  • All subjects regardless of category must consent for brain autopsy

Some ADC subjects may qualify for the Collaborative Prospective Lewy Body Study
Subjects must:

  • Have a DSM-IV diagnosis of dementia
  • Be ambulatory
  • Be in the early stage dementia as manifested by the following: MMSE > 20, comprehensible language, ability to perform self-care either independently or with only modest assistance
  • Consent to autopsy
