Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Core
Principle Investigator: Dr. Jeffery Kaye
Length: Indefinite Visits: 2 per year
Purpose: To determine the natural history and progression of Alzheimer’s disease, MCI, and other well-characterized dementias.
Seeking Volunteers:
- Early AD, MMSE >20, or MMSE <=20 if under 50 years old
- MCI of the Alzheimer Type
- Other well defined dementias (FTD, Lewy Body)
- Healthy subjects at risk - subjects with a strong family history
- Must be able to have full UDS protocol (no conflicting overlap with other clinical trials)
- All subjects regardless of category must consent for brain autopsy
Some ADC subjects may qualify for the Collaborative Prospective Lewy Body Study
Subjects must:
- Have a DSM-IV diagnosis of dementia
- Be ambulatory
- Be in the early stage dementia as manifested by the following: MMSE > 20, comprehensible language, ability to perform self-care either independently or with only modest assistance
- Consent to autopsy
