Over 70,000 Oregonians have Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or a related disorder. These dementias are especially common with increasing age. Among those over 85, up to half will develop cognitive impairment or dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in older adults.
10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease include:
- Changes in memory that disrupt daily life
- Challenges in planning or solving problems
- Difficulty completing familiar tasks
- Confusion with time or place
- Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
- New problems with words in speaking and writing
- Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
- Decreased or poor judgement
- Withdraw from work or social activities
- Changes in mood and personality
