 Lein Lab Cornell-style BBQ

In May 2005, Pam and her husband had a BBQ for friends and family using a famous sauce developed by the Cornell Cooperative Extension in the 1950s. Click here to see a few pictures from the lively event.

huiLingLabHui-ling Chen (foreground) visited the lab in February 2004 to teach Melissa and Michelle how to set up Campenot chambers. (She also made fantastic Chinese dumplings for the lab at a party.) Hui-ling is currently a post-doc at the Center for Neuroscience Research, Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

"I'm currently a student at Jesuit High School in Portland. I'm considering a career in nutrition and health and wanted an opportunity to experience a research environment. It was a positive experience and everyone in the lab made a real effort to make me feel included. I really learned a lot, especially during my first 2 hours in this laboratory!"

Stacy Brendtro (middle)

"As a neuroscience major at Middlebury College, I have developed an interest and passion in studying science. At Middlebury, I have been employed as a research assistant working in microbiology and molecular genetics but this summer I wanted to gain experience in neuroscience. My internship at OSHU has been amazing. Dr. Lein's laboratory is a wonderful combination of exciting, cutting-edge research, and talented, fun, motivated people. Throughout the summer, I have received advice and mentoring regarding both my experiments and my future career choices. Dr. Lein has given me a lot of scientific freedom and I have been involved in several experiments in which I am constantly learning new information and techniques. I am very excited that next year my senior thesis will be a collaborative project with the Lein Lab. I feel lucky to have been in a laboratory with people I hope to have as lifelong friends and colleagues."

"I'm entering my senior year at Portland State University, majoring in microbiology. My genetics professor at PSU told me I should get some experience in a laboratory, so I jumped at the opportunity to work in the Lein lab. I really enjoyed working with the people in the lab, especially since they took the time to explain to me the projects they were working on. I learned that while I appreciate the importance of basic scientific research, I really prefer working with people, so I am considering a career in medicine."
