ABOUT

The Oregon Healthy WorkForce Center (ORhwc), a NIOSH Center of Excellence, is a collaboration of Oregon Health & Science University's (OHSU) Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology (CROET), Portland State University's (PSU) Occupational Health Psychology (OHP) program, the Center for Health Research (CHR) and the University of Oregon's Labor Education Research Center (LERC).

The ORhwc’s theme is Intervention Effectiveness, focused on:

  • team-based and technology-based interventions to promote and protect health, all crafted with attention to translating research to practice
  • improved social support and reduced job stress--that will in turn produce improved lifestyle choices, safer work practices, and better psychological and physical health.

Request for Proposals

The Oregon Healthy WorkForce Center seeks applications for Pilot Projects that improve occupational health, safety and personal wellness. A maximum of $100,000 is available for one 2-year project beginning in July, 2012. Proposals are due June 1, 2012.

We are excited to announce the 1st Annual Occupational Health Psychology Summer Institute presented by Portland State University, OHP Program, OHSU - CROET, Oregon Healthy Workforce Center, and Saint Mary's University, Halifax, CN Center for Occupational Health and Safety.  

This year's Summer Institute will be held in Portland, Oregon and will feature renowned researchers and practitioners in the field of safety research and practice and occupational health. 

 

Partner Luncheon
Save the Date - September 14th, 2012

The Oregon Healthy Workforce Center will hold its first annual partner luncheon on Friday, September 14, 2012 in Portland. The focus of this event is for stakeholders to network and discuss their topics of interest as connected to the Center’s projects and mission. Costs for this event will be covered by the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center grant.


Our keynote speaker, Larry S. Chapman, will speak about ROI of Workplace Wellness Programs.

MEET THE PARTNERS

Center for Research in Occupational and Environmental Toxicology (CROET)
CROET, a free-standing institute at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, is the lead institution for the ORhwc.

CROET, which began operations in 1988, is base-funded by Oregon's Worker's Compensation system to prevent illness and injury in the Oregon workplace, in partnership with labor, industry, government and the community. CROET's ~65 faculty and staff conduct basic and applied research, train health professionals, provide consultation, and offer the public information on occupational health and safety through our CROETweb resource directory and Toxicology Information Center.

Portland State University, Occupational Health Psychology (OHP) Program
The PSU OHP program focuses on the application of psychology to protect and promote workers’ safety, health, and well being, and to improve workers quality of worklife. The program prepares students for careers as consultants, educators, and staff for business, labor, public, academic, community, and health organizations. The OHP program has been funded by Training Program Grants from NIOSH for the past 9 years.

Division of Health Promotion and Sports Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University
The Division of Health Promotion and Sports Medicine at OHSU provides comprehensive internal medicine and non-operative sports medicine care, clinical teaching and conducts state-of-the-art health promotion research targeting potentially at-risk populations. Their physicians and scientists have pioneered award winning programs in schools, work places and medical clinics.

Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) at the University of Oregon
LERC is committed to improving the lives of working Oregonians and enhancing their ability to participate effectively in workplace and community affairs. Established in 1977 by an act of the Oregon Legislature,  LERC’s founding was promoted by an alliance of unions, legislators, university faculty, labor relations professionals, and community leaders who believed that workers and unions in Oregon needed a specific program granting them access to the resources and expertise of the state’s higher education system.
