Methamphetamine Abuse Research Center Pilot Projects (MARC)

Due: April 5th, 2010 - $25,000 - approximately three projects to be funded
Each year, the MARC provides funding for approximately three 1-2 year projects intended to bring new research directions, approaches, and investigators into the Center. Proposals will be evaluated on their scientific merit and innovation and on their alignment with the MARC's research themes, which include:
  • Impulsivity and stressor responsivity (both as predictors of methamphetamine-related problems or as characteristics that may be altered by methamphetamine
  • Neuroadaptation to methamphetamine
  • Neuroanatomy of methamphetamine effects
  • Translation between preclinical and clinical models of methamphetamine effects/abuse.

Projects are also intended to generate preliminary data for future R-type grant applications.
All OHSU and VA faculty interested in methamphetamine research may submit proposals. Because of the MARC's translational emphasis, they also welcome proposals from clinical researchers in non-academic settings so long as their objectives fit into the MARC's research themes. Postdoctoral trainees are not eligible.

OHSU Hospital Fund – Translational Neuroscience Research

Due: Not currently offered (Concept proposals due March 1st, 2009 / Full proposals (invitation only) due May 1st, 2009 - $100,000/year for up to two years. Anticipate awarding 1 grant.) Deadline will be updated when the next funding cycle is released
The purpose of the Translational Neuroscience Research grant is to accelerate application of research discoveries into the clinical arena. The specific intent of this support mechanism is to provide funding that will result in the application of discoveries made at OHSU in a way that will have a tangible impact on clinical care for an important disease of the nervous system within a 24 month timeframe. Proposals must clearly describe how this funding will enable the investigative team to move its research program forward in such a way that it will have a significant impact on the care of patients with an important disease of the nervous system within the 24 month timeframe of the grant. The proposed research should therefore be translational and

OHSU Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI) - Pilot Project Funding

Due: not currently available (May 15th, 2008 - $25,000 – $50,000 for one year (2-4 projects awarded)
Deadline will be updated with the next funding cycle is released
The purpose of the NPI Funding Program is to establish multidisciplinary intramural collaborations in basic and clinical research that address important areas of psychiatry. Pilot project funding will focus on a specific disorder/condition. This is the first round of pilot funding and the research focus is on Bipolar Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Oppositional Defiance in the pediatric and young adult population. The specific intent of this support mechanism is to provide funding for planning, to generate preliminary data to enable successful applications for future larger-scale funding, and to develop a poster for a national meeting. The goal of this funding mechanism is to connect and create partnerships at OHSU for collaborative research on ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder in the pediatric and young adult population, with a focus on prevention. Both basic and clinical scientists are eligible.

Oregon Clinical & Translational Research Institute (OCTRI) - Pilot Project Funding for Rare Disease Research

Full proposals due: December 21, 2009 - Anticipate funding 1 application up to $50,000
The purpose of this funding mechanism is to promote rare disease research and build on OHSU's existing strengths.  A rare (or orphan) disease is generally considered to have a prevalence of fewer than 200,000 affected individuals in the US. Certain diseases with 200,000 or more affected individuals may be included in this list if certain subpopulations of people who have the disease are equal to the prevalence standard for rare diseases.

Oregon Clinical & Translational Research Institute (OCTRI) - Pilot Project Funding for Investigations into the Ethical Conduct of Research

Full proposals due: December 21, 2009 - Anticipate funding 1-2 applications at $10,000 each
The purpose of this funding mechanism is to stimulate research on ways to improve and expand how we conduct and oversee human subject research. Successful applications will draw from techniques in qualitative and quantitative research and borrow from program evaluation methodology and the practice of quality assessment and process improvement. Proposed projects should consider ways to improve and expand how we conduct and oversee research. Examples of such would include but not be limited to examining novel approaches to obtaining consent, proposing new models for oversight that allow for equivalent protections, questioning the added-value of extra-regulatory activities, and/or studying the effects of reviewer biases on the quality of research.
