Every day, OHSU scientists make pioneering discoveries. They illuminate the basic biological functions that cause diseases and find treatments for them. OHSU’s success is a testament to our researchers’ creativity and dedication.

When creative people get together, innovations happen. OHSU is committed to creating an environment that nurtures partnerships within and across disciplines—and one that stimulates the transformation of basic science discoveries into treatments
in the clinic.

This approach has saved thousands of lives: OHSU cancer researchers gained worldwide attention when they were the first to transform a basic science discovery into a drug that kills cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone.

Cross-disciplinary endeavors such as the Human Genetics Initiative,
the Oregon National Primate Research Center, and OCTRI actively promote new partnerships. Facilities such as the Biomedical Research Building physically support them. Tools such as the Advanced Imaging Center and other shared resources, as well as comparative approaches, make discoveries real.
