HHS Announces Health IT Grant Program
The Department of Health and Human Services today released $235 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grants for a program to accelerate health information technology in 15 communities.
The Beacon Community Program will establish cooperative agreements with communities to strengthen existing health IT infrastructure and information exchange capabilities. Grant recipients will track and report on progress toward health and efficiency goals related to Electronic Health Record adoption and meaningful use. National Coordinator for Health Information Technology David Blumenthal said the program will provide “more hard evidence that health IT exchange can make a significant and positive difference in the delivery and value of care.” Details on the program can be found online.
