Free Quality Improvement Assistance for Flu & Pneumonia Immunizations

Does your hospital or clinic need assistance with improving your flu, pneumonia or shingles vaccine rates?

Acumentra Health is offering Free Quality Improvement Assistance to help you improve your immunization rates on these vaccines. Through webinar trainings, some on-site visits and many other valuable resources, your staff can help improve your vaccine rates through best practices. If this is an area where your facility struggles or could just use some extra help, please see below for more information.

Acumentra Health is charged by CMS to work with hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and home health agencies to increase immunization rates for Medicare beneficiaries for one or more of the following vaccines: flu, pneumonia and shingles. The goals of the project are to increase vaccination rates, increase assessment and documentation in Oregon’s immunization registry (ALERT), and reduce immunization disparities. As a Critical Access Hospital, this quality improvement project will also help with goals for MBQIP measure for flu immunizations, increasing opportunities for financial reimbursement.

Participation with Acumentra Health provides access to their services till 2019, with technical assistance including:

  • Access to free multi-lingual resources, tools and education materials
  • Access to webinars and connection to a network of organizations working toward the same goals

  • Responsible for 50,000 deaths annually
  • 10-20% of cases require admission to the ICU
  • Responsible for 140,000 hospital readmissions per year, costings more than $10 billion in hospital expenditures
  • Medicare covers all costs (no coinsurance, co-payment, deductible requirement)

Facts about Shingles

  • Almost 1 in 3 people in the U.S. will develop shingles in their lifetime
  • Approximately 1 to 4% of people who get shingles are hospitalized for complications
  • Generally covered by Medicare Part D – this is a great opportunity to work with local pharmacies!

Facts about the Flu

  • 5-20% of the population gets the flu each year
  • The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older should receive the flu vaccine
  • Each year, the flu results in 200,000 hospitalizations and more than $87 billion in total economic burden
  • Medicare covers all costs (no coinsurance, co-payment, deductible requirement)
