Sometimes saving a life isn't so easy. Dr. Newell is one of the clinicians you want on your team when the going gets rough. She has always been known for her dedication and thorough approach to every patient, but for a recent patient in a dire situation, she went to the FDA and got emergency approval to give a patient a therapy for compassionate use. This was no small feat — and instead of eating lunch, dinner or sleeping for several days, she was consumed with drafting emergency protocols, calling the FDA and banging on doors on behalf of a patient. She doesn't see obstacles; she just does the work and gets around them. While others might have said it was too hard or too time-consuming, Dr. Newell just saw what the best thing was for the patient and did it. We are fortunate to have a colleague like her.
