Your Care Team
Compassionate care and trusted expertise
Our entire team is dedicated to providing high-quality care to each of our patients. With state-of-the-art facilities and a wide range of support services, you can rest assured that all of the needs of you and your baby will be met.
OHSU has the distinction of having the region’s top specialists in high-risk maternal fetal medicine available 24 hours a day. Additionally, the Doernbecher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is steps away should your baby need special attention.
Each member of your care team will work with you to provide you with the childbirth experience you are looking for.
Our dedicated nurses have special training and experience in labor and delivery. They are also trained in lactation support and mother-baby recovery care. Many of our nurses have advanced degrees and nationally recognized certification in their specialty. Some of our nurses practice as midwives in the community. You can count on us for strong support and loving care during your labor, delivery and recovery.
- You can expect your own dedicated nurse through your labor and delivery experience.
- Once you have recovered from your labor and delivery, a team of nurses will care for you and your baby until it’s time for you to go home.
Anesthesiology and pain relief
We fully support your pain relief decisions. A designated obstetric anesthesiologist is available 24-hours a day, every day of the year, to explain your options and provide pain relief during your labor. OHSU offers more epidural (spinal area) options than any other area hospital.
If you are planning on a cesarean surgical delivery (c-section), your same labor and delivery nurse will continue to work with you and follow your care (this also applies if a c-section becomes necessary during your labor). An anesthesiologist will provide pain relief, while an experienced doctor performs the surgery.
Neonatology - specialty baby care
A specialty care team from the nearby neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is on-hand during all surgical and high-risk deliveries. This practice assures the safety and health of your baby.
While none of us anticipates having complications during birth, we hope knowing top-notch consultants and the newest technologies are part of your care if you need them, is comforting.
Our caring staff will help you get started breastfeeding your baby. Many of our nurses are trained in lactation support. Specially trained lactation consultants are available daily to offer assistance and make sure you get things off to a great start. After you go home, our lactation nurses are only a phone call away any time you need help.
Hospitality at OHSU
Our hospitality staff is here to make sure you are carefully fed and cared for during your stay at OHSU. A room service associate will be available to provide excellent customer service and you can order food by phone anytime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. We are pleased to offer a one-time celebratory meal for two during your recovery in the hospital. You will also receive a box of Oregon-made goodies as our send-off gift.
