In vitro fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a highly effective technique for infertility. In vitro fertilization refers to a procedure in which an egg (or oocyte) is fertilized outside of the body and then transferred into the woman’s uterus. IVF takes the chance out of the fertilization portion of the process. Then the fertilized egg only needs to implant on its own and grow into a healthy, viable pregnancy. Today, IVF is commonly used to improve your chances of pregnancy.

First, the oocyte is removed from a woman’s ovary. Then in the laboratory, that egg is fertilized with sperm, resulting in an embryo.  After the embryo has properly developed, it is then transferred into your uterus. Embryos that are not replaced during a fresh cycle and are of good quality can be frozen for future use. This process is called cryopreservation. You can use your own eggs and sperm, or you can use a donor you know. You can also use, the eggs and/or sperm from our egg or sperm donor programs.

The IVF procedure is complex and, can be intimidating for some. Each treatment plan is individual and varies from patient to patient. But the general steps through our program will be similar. So our general guideline will help give you an idea of what the IVF process might be like for you.

It’s important to remember that we’re always there for you. You will work with a dedicated nursing team, IVF specialists and other support staff. We will coordinate your cycle and help guide and support you through the IVF process.
