Seeing a Fertility Specialist
Deciding when to see a fertility doctor
Infertility is typically defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after one year of unprotected intercourse. If you have been trying to conceive (become pregnant) for a year or more, you may need to have an infertility evaluation.
If any of the following situations apply to you, you should consider coming in sooner:
- Women over 35 should begin infertility evaluation after about six months of unprotected intercourse so as to not delay treatment.
- Women with irregular menstrual cycles do not need wait an entire year before seeking treatment.
- Women or men with known fertility problems should not wait an entire year before seeking treatment.
