Physical Therapy

The physical therapists at the OHSU Spine Center have specialized training in prescribing the right exercises for spinal conditions. Your therapist tracks your progress with information designed to measure spine health. When you are confident that you can exercise on your own, we help you start exercising independently. By this time, your back pain is usually less frequent and severe.

Exercise and training for kyphosis includes:

  • Education and training about good posture
  • Strengthening the muscles that hold your shoulders back
  • Strengthening the muscles in the front of your neck
  • Training you to avoid positions that harm your spine
  • Doing weight-bearing exercise if you have osteoporosis
  • Teaching you good body position and movement for working
  • Improving your balance and learning to avoid falls
