Biography
Dr. Solomon practices both medical dermatology and dermatopathology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA) and also has a part-time appointment in the OHSU Department of Dermatology, leading the teaching and mentoring of the Department of Dermatology’s residents as the Resident Education Director. Dr. Solomon joined OHSU and the VA after five years on the faculty of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and 20 years at Emory University in Atlanta and the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Solomon was the Chief of the Dermatology service at the VA and the founding Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship, mentoring 12 fellows. He has published 85 papers in peer-reviewed journals, co-authored seven book chapters and given 155 presentations at national and international meetings. He is a co-author of the dermatopathology textbook, Cutaneous Pathology. Along with his mentor at the University of Michigan, John T. Headington, M.D., Dr. Solomon was instrumental in popularizing the use of transverse section biopsy specimens for the diagnosis of alopecia. Dr. Solomon is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatology, and Dermatopathology. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.
