"I strongly believe that psychotherapy is about working collaboratively with each of my patients to help them gain greater enjoyment and fulfillment in their lives. Rather than trying to fit each patient to “my model of Psychotherapy”, I work hard to determine what combination of my psychotherapy skills will be most helpful to that particular person."
Biography
I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to live, work, and play in a variety of diverse locations; from Ohio to Hawai’i, Hawai’i to Kansas, and Kansas to Oregon. Similarly, I have trained and worked in a variety of theoretical and applied clinical settings in which I studied Cognitive Behavioral, brief and longer term insight oriented Individual and Group Psychotherapy. In all of these personal and professional settings I repeatedly saw one common theme that has influenced my clinical work. That theme is the importance of recognizing and understanding the unique qualities and strengths of each person and to make use of those qualities when helping that person in a psychotherapy process. So when I work with someone, I take into consideration their personal, familial, and cultural backgrounds to better individualize and personalize their treatment. In addition to my traditional Psychotherapy training, in 2000 I was able to realize a longstanding dream to formally study Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Since that time I have continued to work on developing methods to incorporate that approach to health and well-being into better understanding the patients with whom I work. I am also working on techniques for integrating Acupuncture into the Psychological treatment of anxiety and addictions.
