"Pregnancy, childbirth and the early years are a magical time in the life of a family, during which tiny changes can have a profound impact. I am honored to work with women and families during this vulnerable but exciting time."

Biography

Dr. Payne has a special interest in women's mental health and improving the overall health of the family including parents, infants, and young children. Her current research relates to the effects of psychological trauma on mothering. Through prior experience, Dr. Payne witnessed how much a woman's and family's mental state affects the process of childbirth and a mother's capacity to parent with confidence and compassion. In her practice, she tries to understand the world from her patient's point of view in order to design a treatment approach which incorporates current medical knowledge and fits the patient's life. Born in Oxford, England, Dr. Payne chose Portland because it is so easy to get around on foot or bicycle. She also loves the landscape and the coffee shops and independent bookstores. She chose OHSU because it is academically rigorous, but also because it is friendly and promotes creativity. In her leisure time, Dr. Payne enjoys going to the coast in any kind of weather, spending time with her husband and sons, dancing, and knitting.
