"I believe that women have the right to choose the manner in which they give birth and that they deserve support and balanced information to empower healthy choices."
Biography
Michelle LaChance has a special interest in normalizing birth, in nutrition and in optimizing care for women through perimenopause and menopause. She is also very interested in effective alternative treatments for common pregnancy discomforts. Michelle likes being an advocate for women. Empowering women to have a normal, satisfying birth experience and teaching student midwives are both gratifying parts of her job. Originally from Burlington, Michelle also studied nursing in Vermont. She received her nurse-midwifery degree from OHSU and has spent many years practicing in the Portland community. Michelle feels lucky to both practice and teach her craft with such a committed group of midwives and providers. When she is not at work, she loves spending time outdoors hiking, skiing, cycling and walking with her dogs. She also enjoys playing piano and spending lots of time watching her teenage son play sports. PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH PHILOSOPHY "I believe that a good birth attendant has the knowledge and understanding of technology, along with the wisdom to not let it get in the way when it is not indicated. To allow nature to guide the way is a very valuable skill in this profession."
