Tibor Kovacsovics, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Kovacsovics received his medical degree in 1981 from the University of Geneva Medical School in Switzerland. He completed his internships and residency in internal medicine at the University of Geneva, where he served as resident and then chief resident. He finished his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston in 1994 and completed his research fellowship in medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston in 1994. From 1994 - 2003, he worked as staff physician in the Division of Hematology at Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland, where he developed a program to give patients transplants of their own stem cells to fight disease. Dr. Kovacsovics was involved in starting and coordinating several research studies of blood cancers in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe, and served as the chairman of the Swiss Leukemia Group from 2002 to 2004. Dr. Kovacsovics treats patient with blood cancers using chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. His research focuses on acute leukemia.
