"I have a fantastic job. I am inspired on daily basis by the children and care-givers whose lives are upended by the diagnosis of cancer. Their courage and fortitude to endure and maintain hope during such difficult times motivates me to do the best job that I can. I also feel lucky that everyday I come to work, I know my job is important and has such an impact on the lives of others."
Dr. Malempati cares for children with all varieties of cancer and blood disorders. His clinical expertise is in the treatment of pediatric sarcomas and other solid tumors. Dr. Malempati also heads the Doernbecher Development Therapeutics program, which through clinical trials, evaluates novel drugs for the treatment of childhood cancer.
Dr. Malempati spends most of his free time with his wife and two young daughters. When time allows, he also enjoys outdoor sports (running, cycling, rock-climbing, hiking). Since moving to Portland, he has become an avid fan of the Portland Trailblazers.
