"Pregnancy and birth can be transforming experiences for women and their families. My role is to encourage that to happen and to support women in their choices."
Penni Harmon specializes in full-scope midwifery care, which includes caring for women before, during and after pregnancy, as well as providing gynecological care. She enjoys supporting normal experiences for women and families and helping when things go beyond the range of normal. Penni believes in helping families understand and maintain control of their own experiences. She also enjoys teaching students the art and science of midwifery.
Penni grew up in New England, but has lived in many places including Mexico. She loves everything about the Pacific Northwest and is honored to work with Carol Howe and her midwifery practice. Penni joined the OHSU practice in 2001 and loves it. She enjoys doing anything in the outdoors and devotes much of her time to horses and horse camping. However she still finds time for many other popular Oregon activities, including her role as an Elder at the Oregon Country Fair. Penni and her husband are the proud parents of five grown children, and the grandparents of two wonderful little-ones.
PREGNANCY & CHILDBIRTH PHILOSOPHY
"Midwifery is a calling for me. My grandmother was a midwife during the Depression and told birth stories around our kitchen table for most of my childhood. I practice holistic midwifery care and love to help guide women and their families through the miraculous journey of pregnancy and childbirth."
