Ryan Clay grew up in the Minneapolis area, learning a love for the outdoors and hard-luck sports teams. After high school he set out to New York University to become a journalist. Wanting to do more with interviews than write them down, and missing science, he squeezed in pre-health electives just in time to graduate. While in New York, Ryan spent time tutoring in all areas at 826 NYC, a non-profit organization set up as a safe space for Brooklyn public school kids. He was drawn back to Minnesota for medical school at the University of Minnesota. As a medical student, he was involved in community outreach and education, and he volunteered at and helped run a free clinic. He is interested in improving healthcare access and outcomes for indigent populations and in cross-cultural end-of-life care. He loves music, cycling, running, camping, and cross-country skiing. He also plays guitar and drums and is looking for band mates.
