Kacy Church was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii before she left the island to complete her undergraduate education in Oregon. She fell in love with the hiking and beautiful scenery as she earned her BA in Biochemistry, with a minor in Sociology, from Willamette University in Salem. She returned to Hawaii, also known for beautiful scenery and hiking, to attend the John A. Burns School of Medicine. Kacy has been interested in medicine as far back as she can remember, but endocrinology first sparked her interest during the summer of 2005. During an internship at Straub Hospital in Hawaii, Kacy investigated the possible use of a different type of glucose-monitoring device on post-cardiac surgery patients. The spark continued as she recently worked to evaluate methods and compliance with glucose monitoring during pregnancy for patients with gestational diabetes. Kacy not only loves the teaching aspects of medicine, but she also loves that aspect of her volunteer work. She was involved with the Oregon Literacy Project, tutoring adults with English as a second language. Her time spent as a hula instructor at Willamette was also a joy. She danced ancient hula competitively throughout high school and carried those skills to help run the luau for 4 years. In her free time, Kacy likes hiking, reading, and she still loves dancing.
