Alexandra (Sasha) Swartzman was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She moved to the East Coast for college, where she attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY and majored in both Biology and Women’s Studies. The day after graduation, Sasha packed her bags and moved to San Francisco, where she lived in the mission district and worked as a bicycle mechanic, teaching bike repair classes and helping others fix their bikes. During this time, she also worked as a clinical research assistant at UCSF on an HIV/AIDS study. Having fallen in love with the West Coast, Sasha moved to Portland two years later to attend medical school at OHSU, where she obtained an MD/MPH. A devotee of city living, Sasha is ecstatic to be staying in Portland for residency at OHSU, and hopefully beyond. When not in the hospital, you might find Sasha sewing her own scrubs, at a farmer’s market contesting the difference between yams and sweet potatoes, riding one of her four bicycles, trying a new restaurant, weeding her garden, picking berries on Sauvie Island, browsing midcentury modern furniture on Craigslist, playing guitar, or hosting a Shabbat dinner. She is passionate about pursuing a career in primary care, given her interest in establishing meaningful relationships with her patients over time.
