Nathanael (Nate) Gay was born and raised in Spokane, Washington, the fourth in a family of five children. He attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana where he earned a B.A. in Biology. As an undergraduate he explored the effects of advanced glycation end products in diabetic rats. After college, he worked as a phlebotomist at a regional hospital in Spokane for a year before attending the University of Washington School of Medicine. Especially meaningful was his experience volunteering at the House of Charity, a free medical clinic for the homeless in Spokane. Nate enjoys running, soccer, and spending time with his wife, Meghan.
