About me

Allan Harrelson, D.O., Ph.D. is a board-eligible cardiologist who earned his medical degree from the founding Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. Prior to his medical training, Dr. Harrelson graduated from Reed College with an undergraduate degree in biology, and attended The Rockefeller University in New York City, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow and completed his Ph.D. in neuroendocrinology. He was awarded NIH and American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellowship awards to Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley and subsequently worked in academic teaching and researchpositions at the University of Missouri and Washington University School of Medicine.

After medical school Dr. Harrelson completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, followed there by a one-year research fellowship in molecular cardiology. Subsequently he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he completed a three-year clinical fellowship in general cardiology at the University of Cincinnati, then went on to accept an appointment to a joint faculty appointment at OHSU and St. John Medical Center in 2010.

Dr. Harrelson is an active member of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and other scientific organizations. His clinical duties include adult general cardiology with an emphasis on echocardiography and cardiac imaging. He continues an active program in cardiology teaching and research focused on stem cells and heart repair. During his time away from the office, Dr. Harrelson enjoys travel, hiking, sailing and outdoor activities with his family.
