Karen E. Adams, M.D.
- Special Interests:
- Obstetrics and Gynecology, Adolescent OB/GYN Care, Women’s Midlife Care
- Accepting Patients:
"Hearing that I made a difference for a patient is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what I do."
Dr. Adams has a broad-based practice that focuses on normal obstetrical care and office gynecology. Her research interests include medical education in her role as residency program director, and medical ethics as a Clinical Consultant for the OHSU Center for Ethics in Health Care. Although she does not perform gynecologic surgery, Dr. Adams enjoys meeting new obstetrical patients and welcoming back women she has cared for over almost 20 years of practice. She is completing a soon-to-be-published book entitled Dr. Karen Adams Talks to Moms: Guiding our Daughters Through Puberty and Beyond, with the permission of her 21-year-old daughter who has overcome her mortification that her mom talked about sex to her sophomore health class.
After growing up in a small town outside of Houston, Texas and attending medical school in Houston, Dr. Adams came to OHSU for residency and never looked back. In her spare time, Dr. Adams stays active with yoga, Zumba and biking. On weekends and days off she can be found testing cupcake recipes for Prescription Cupcake, her dream bakery that she plans to sink all her retirement savings into. Traveling to semi-exotic locales also ranks high on her list.
From adolescence through perimenopause and menopause, Dr. Adams is passionate about helping her patients reach their health goals at any age.
PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH PHILOSOPHY
"During childbirth, I try to stay out of the way as much as possible and allow the birth to proceed unhindered. But when I need it, I am grateful for the top-notch training, technology, and support at OHSU that allows us to deliver babies in a safe and healthy way."
