Dr. Slater joined OHSU Cardiothoracic Surgery team in 2001 and was promoted to Section Chief of Adult cardiac Surgery in 2004. He is board certified in both Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery and performs all types of adult cardiac surgery. He is particularly interested valvular heart disease and performs complex valve surgery such as The Ross Procedure and mitral valve repair. In addition to his interest in valvular heart disease, Dr. Slater is involved in cardiac transplantation, thoracic aortic surgery, and cardiac surgery in high-risk patients. Away from the operating room Dr. Slater conducts research related to valvular heart disease, cardiac transplantation and eliminating the adverse effects of cardiopulmonary bypass. He is actively involved as a teacher and mentor in the OHSU medical residency education program.
