Our setting is unique in that we work together as a team of Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgeons, Hepatologists, Interventional and Body Radiologists, Medical Oncologists and Radiation Oncologists."

Biography

Dr. Susan L. Orloff is Professor of Surgery, the Director and Chief of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Oregon Health & Science University and Chief of the Liver Transplant Program at the Portland VA Medical Center.  She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California, San Diego, where she was Phi Beta Kappa.  She then obtained her medical degree and was AOA from the University of California, San Francisco,  she subsequently completed her residency and abdominal organ transplant fellowship at the UCSF, and has been practicing transplant surgery and hepatobiliary surgery in Portland for the past 19 years.  She has served as the Director of the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank and previously served as the Director of Basic Science Research and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery for eight years.  Dr. Orloff established and now supervises a highly productive NIH and VA-Merit Review funded laboratory and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology.  Her passion for teaching and working with fellows, residents and students is exemplified by having won three teaching awards at OHSU.   She is internationally recognized as a leader in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation.  She is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 20 book chapters in the fieldsof transplant immunology and tolerance, mechanisms of cytomegalovirus infection and accelerated rejection in solid organ transplants, outcomes in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery.  Dr. Orloff is on the editorial board of 3 journals and is an invited reviewer for 16.  She is an active member of several surgical societies including currently  serving as Governor to the American College of Surgeons for the prestigious American Surgical Association. In additionshe serves as Councilor –at- Large for the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, she is the American Society of Transplantation, Chair of Liver Intestine Community of Practice,  Chair of the Society of University Surgeons Committee on Global Academic Surgery, and the UNOS Region 6 Representative for the UNOS Liver Intestine.
