Since August 2008, Dr. Matthew Halsey has headed the pediatric orthopaedic program at Doernbecher. His main interests in pediatric orthopaedic topics include scoliosis and trauma. He and his group are currently working on identifying the best treatment regiment for elbow fractures after closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. They are also looking to identify ways of minimizing post-op radiation and visits, as well as methods for decreasing post-operative pain following scoliosis surgery. The main goal is not only to decrease pain but to decrease total opioid use, its complications and to decrease the overall length of stay for patients.

Dr. Halsey also has a special interest in hip dysplasia and other hip issues (SCFE, Perthes, etc) as well as clubfeet. Trauma and Sports Injuries are an important part of his practice as well.
