Biography
Dr. Guyton has worked with the OHSU Cardiothoracic Surgery team since 2007 and served as Division Chief from 2008-2012. He served on the faculties at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Washington before coming to OHSU. He practiced cardiothoracic surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle for twenty years before moving to Portland. He has been active in numerous surgical organizations, serving the American College of Surgeons as an Executive Committee member of the Board of Governors; the Western Thoracic Surgical Association as Treasurer and President; and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons on Postgraduate Education, Membership, Medico-Legal and Standards and Ethics Committees. He chaired peer review and research committees and served as President of the Northwest Affiliate for the American Heart Association. His primary clinical interests include off-pump coronary bypass and mitral valve repair. He has strong interest in optimizing training of cardiothoracic surgeons and serves as associate director of the OHSU cardiothoracic surgery resident training program. His work focuses on maximizing benefits to the patient while minimizing stay in the hospital and recuperation time.
