Biography
Dr. Gerrah completed his medical education and cardiothoracic surgery training in Israel. He was an attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon for two years before coming to the United States. He repeated his fellowships in Cardiac Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Following a year of research fellowship, Dr. Gerrah joined Dr. Jan Quaegebuer and Dr. Emile Bacha at Columbia University, and specialized in Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Gerrah’s primary interests include congenital cardiac surgery, especially single ventricle cardiac diseases and repair of complex congenital cardiac anomalies. His other interests include assist devices, peri-operative cardiac critical care, and minimally invasive surgery. In addition to clinical activities as attending surgeon, Dr. Gerrah is conducting research on congenital heart diseases including mechanical simulation and development of biologic models of congenital heart disease, assist devices, biventricular pacing, and investigation of platelet function during cardiac surgery. Dr. Gerrah is an assistant professor in surgery and pediatrics at OHSU and actively involved in teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Gerrah’s approach to patient care is based on open communication with the patients and their families and involving other caregivers and colleagues in decision making in order to provide the best treatment options. Dr. Gerrah believes in commitment for excellence and placing the patients in the first priority.
