Biography
Dr. Fried-Oken's clinical area of focus is augmentative and alternative communication. "There is always a way to communicate, regardless of level of impairment," said Fried-Oken, who currently serves as the director of Augmentative Communications at OHSU. "I believe a person can use assistive technology to return or maintain communication functions for social interaction." Fried-Oken added that she works with the family to identify needs and goals, then matches the person to the equipment and strategies based on their skills, and their projected skills with a diagnosis.
