Biography
Jim Carson, Ph.D., is a clinical health psychologist who has worked extensively with patients suffering from persistent pain, including those diagnosed with cancer, chronic low back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, sickle cell disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and noncardiac chest pain. Previously he was an Assistant Professor in the Pain Prevention and Treatment Research Program, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to becoming a psychologist Dr. Carson was a meditation teacher for many years. He has conducted innovative research into the psychological treatment of pain, including the application of meditation and yoga-based programs as adjunctive treatments for various conditions.
