PGY2 Critical Care Program Design

We appreciate your interest in the OHSU PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program. This is a full-time, 12-month program that provides residents with extensive training opportunities in critical care, emergency medicine, practice management, and academia. One resident will be accepted to the next residency class that begins July 1 and ends June 30. Our residency program was initiated in 2016 and will be accredited by ASHP pending review by the ASHP Accreditation Survey Team.

OHSU offers a structured training program in several specialized critical care areas. The program allows opportunity for focused areas of learning through elective experiences. The resident's knowledge base, past experience, and interests dictate the choice and length of experiences. The resident, program director, and primary preceptors jointly develop the resident schedule. Our residency program was initiated in 2016 and is ASHP-accredited.

Service requirement

Consistent with the ASHP residency standards, the OHSU residency experience is primarily a practical, rather than didactic or classroom experience. After completing appropriate training, the resident will staff critical care area(s) to be determined by interest and training (approximately four shifts per month). All residents must be licensed in Oregon within the first three months of the residency program. Visit the Oregon Board of Pharmacy web site for additional details.

Teaching opportunities

The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident, in cooperation with the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy, will participate in classroom discussions, lectures, and labs during the school's elective Critical Care lecture series. Residents may also precept Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiential students and OHSU PGY1 pharmacy practice residents on clinical rotations throughout the year. Additional opportunities are available to residents seeking additional teaching responsibilities through the Oregon Residency Teaching Certificate Program. The elective teaching certificate program is offered as a joint program by OSU College of Pharmacy and Pacific University School of Pharmacy.
