Patient Story – Foot Reconstruction
I recently had foot reconstructive surgery at OHSU. The foot disorder I had has been a problem for many women in my family. My mother has always complained of foot pain, and I remember my grandmother and great aunts hobbling around in big clunky shoes and having to limit their physical activities because of it. I live in Bend and enjoy walking for exercise, hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. This is just too much fun to quit because of foot pain.
After one failed surgery, I called Dr. John-Paul Veri, orthopaedic surgeon, a foot and ankle specialist at OHSU. Dr. Veri felt confident that he could make the changes in my foot that would help me continue all of my fun activities and live without pain. My surgery was a mid-foot fusion. On the day of the surgery, all the OHSU staff treated me with respect and the utmost caring. From the receptionist to the nurse who worked with me in recovery to the staff member who wheeled me to the car, everyone was wonderful. Not only were they highly skilled, but they were very kind to me. It's extraordinary to find professionals who really care about people. To Dr. Veri and his team, I say, “Thank you so much for taking such good care of me.”
