Point of Care - POCT

Point of Care testing (POCT) refers to any hospital or clinic employee performing any type of laboratory test outside of the central laboratory. The ability to perform laboratory testing at the bedside has revolutionized the continuum of the patient care process by enabling health care professionals to act on critical laboratory results immediately and efficiently

The POCT team provides assistance in proper laboratory procedures, regulatory compliance, and training. Point of Care tests performed at OHSU Hospitals and Clinics can be located in the OHSU Policy Management System. All test changes, deletions or additions must be communicated to and will be approved through the POCT department.
