CABG
CABG stands for coronary artery bypass graft. This surgical procedure is one treatment option for a blocked or diseased artery in the heart, which is a life-threatening medical condition.
In CABG, your OHSU heart surgeon uses a blood vessel from elsewhere in your body, such as an arm or leg, to connect blood vessels near the blocked or diseased area. This allows blood to bypass the blocked artery.
OHSU’s Heart & Vascular care team does CABG with cardiopulmonary bypass --a machine breathes and pumps blood for you during the surgery --and on the beating heart. We have the experience and skill to carry out this procedure in the safest, most effective way for you, and our heart surgeons use innovative techniques to make the procedure as safe as possible. We constantly evaluate the outcomes for all our patients, including length of hospital stay and the need for blood transfusions, to make sure our results remain outstanding.
